1-2-1 Programmes:

Our 1-2-1 training Programmes are the first step towards having a dog that you can be proud of and an easier, more enjoyable and stress-free life with your dog.

In our programmes, it’s not just your dog who will learn. You will also learn the skills needed to work with your dog and you will gain an understanding of the reasons behind what we do in the training so that you can understand what we are trying to achieve.

Sharing your life with a dog is meant to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, but so often what starts out with a dream of a beautiful life together ends up a nightmare of struggles and stress. Like most issues that develop in relationships, these are often caused by communication difficulties and misunderstanding between us and our dog.

When we bring a dog into our home, we expect to have a long life together and we want to provide the best care that we can. This means that we invest in their health care, their diet and their comfort. Just as investing in preventative health care keeps your dog healthy, investing in training can prevent a lifetime of unnecessary issues yet often this is not seen as important as investing health care and diet.

Starting your training early, whether you have a new puppy or an older rescue dog, can help prevent a lot of behavioural issues later. Understanding how your dog learns allows you to be confident in dealing with any issues that arise in your relationship together.

A calm and resourceful dog is less likely to get into trouble, so you potentially save in the long term in vet bills and expensive behavioural consultations – not just that, you will have a dog that is a pleasure to live with and fun to be around.

Developing a close bond and a solid relationship with your dog can be achieved by training with The Really Useful Dog Training School.

We have several personalised 1-2-1 training programmes to meet your individual needs.

We offer an introductory 1-2-1 in home training session so that you can see what is possible to achieve with your dog.

Puppy Life Skills Programme

This programme will guide you every step of the way through all the puppy challenges so that your puppy will have the best chance of growing into a confident dog who is able to cope with life. We will introduce the concepts that will help your puppy stay calm and settled and address things like toilet training which will make your pup easier to live with both in and out of the home.

Create the best possible start for your pup during the time that counts the most. Puppies from 8 weeks old can begin the programme.

Did You Know?

Critical Period

Puppies have a short, critical time period from 3-18 weeks (or earlier, depending on the breed) when a lot of their learning is consolidated and little things that happen during this period can have big impacts. That’s why it’s SO important to invest in your puppy now so that they can develop into the best dog that they can be for the next 10-15 years with you.

Wondrous Walks Training Programme

Does your dog pull your arm out of its socket every time you go for a walk? Will your dog come back to you when off-leash when called, or is his rear end heading for the horizon a familiar sight? Maybe he’s just too interested in other dogs when you’re out, so he doesn’t pay attention to you?

Don’t despair, help is on hand with our Wondrous Walks Programme.

This is a 1-2-1 training programme delivered over 4 weeks designed to get your dog to be reliable off-leash, and a pleasure to walk on the leash. We work on building a solid relationship with your dog which means that he is more likely to focus on you when you want him to. We want our dogs to have the freedom to be dogs when they’re out, but we need to know that they are reliable enough to be given freedom.

As with our other programmes, we play progressive games to help your dog learn the concepts necessary to achieve these goals. We also spend time with you to make sure that you understand the problems that you are experiencing in this area and the solutions you need. Each week there is a 1-hour session where you and your dog learn the specific games that you need, and some time for questions and discussion about how you are doing with the training and some background into why your dog does what he does.

Mischievous Mutts Training Programme

Does your dog steal food from the worktops, or raid the bin? Does he destroy articles in the house? Does he bark and jump up at visitors and generally get over-excited? Does he demand attention when you are trying to watch TV or read?

Behaviours like these can be costly – in having to replace furniture or walls that have been damaged or having expensive vet bills to remove articles that have been eaten and that have put your dog at risk. Perhaps people are not so keen to visit anymore because your dog is too ‘over the top’.

Don’t put things off any longer – these things don’t go away on their own, and the more your dog gets to practise the unwanted behaviours the better he will get at them!

Sign up now for our 1-2-1 Mischievous Mutts Programme specially designed to deal with these ‘naughty’ behaviours and see how your dog can transform from a Mischievous Mutt into a Desirable Doggy!
